Care & Maintenance
Sod Care
- Sod Care
A new sod installation is most vulnerable in its first weeks. Consistent watering and careful early management establish the foundation for a healthy, long-lived lawn.
First Two Weeks
Water deeply within thirty minutes of installation. For the first two weeks, water once or twice daily so that the soil beneath the sod remains consistently moist — not saturated.
Avoid foot traffic during this period to allow the roots to establish into the soil below.
Establishment Phase
After the first two weeks, gradually reduce the watering frequency while increasing the depth of each watering. The goal is to encourage roots to grow downward in search of moisture.
By week four, most lawns can transition to a routine of two to three deep waterings per week, depending on weather conditions.
Mowing
The first mow should occur once the sod has knit firmly to the soil — typically two to three weeks after installation. Set the mower to a height of approximately three inches and never remove more than one third of the blade in a single cut.
Fertilization & Long-Term Care
Apply a balanced fertilizer approximately four to six weeks after installation, followed by a regular feeding schedule throughout the growing season.
Aerating annually and overseeding as needed will support a dense, healthy lawn over time.
A Considered Approach
A lawn established with intention
Careful early management produces a lawn that performs reliably for years. The first season sets the standard for everything that follows.
