Care & Maintenance
Plant Care
- Plant Care
Plant material is the most expressive element of a landscape. Healthy growth is the result of consistent, thoughtful attention rather than occasional intervention.
Watering
Newly installed plants require deep, consistent watering through the first full growing season. The goal is to establish roots well below the surface, where moisture remains stable.
Water in the early morning, soaking the soil at the base of each plant. Light, frequent watering encourages shallow roots and weaker plants over time.
Mulching
A two to three inch layer of natural mulch helps regulate soil temperature, conserve moisture, and suppress weeds. Mulch should be refreshed annually and kept slightly away from the base of trunks and stems.
Pruning
Light, intentional pruning preserves the natural form of each plant. Spring-flowering shrubs are best pruned shortly after blooming, while summer-flowering varieties respond well to early spring shaping.
Avoid heavy pruning in late autumn, as new growth may not harden before winter.
Seasonal Considerations
Apply a slow-release fertilizer in early spring to support new growth. In late autumn, deeply water evergreens before the ground freezes to reduce winter desiccation.
Sensitive plantings near walkways or driveways benefit from burlap protection through the coldest months.
A Considered Approach
Built to mature gracefully
The plantings within your landscape are selected with longevity in mind. With consistent care, they will grow into the design as it was intended.
